Where people, place, and story meet.

A collaborative documentary lab bringing filmmakers, researchers, and communities together around place-based stories.

Planet Story Lab is a working environment for documentary storytelling—where people come together to research, film, and shape stories rooted in place. Each cycle explores how the planet shapes our lives, and how we shape the planet in return.

Grounded in mentorship, place-based research, and fieldwork, the Lab connects lived experience with larger environmental, social, and cultural systems.

Each Planet Story Lab cycle centers on a specific place or theme. The inaugural Lab focuses on The LA Basin Fires: Impact, Recovery, and the Future, exploring wildfire not only as an ecological event, but as a lived condition shaped by climate, housing, labor, and public health.

Future cycles will build on this model, bringing new places, questions, and collaborators into focus while remaining grounded in the same commitment to place-based, relational storytelling.
